Throughout my career, I've seen first-hand the connection between social-emotional learning and academic achievement in students. When we design learning environments for students “on the margins” everyone is elevated academically, feelings of safety are increased, and relationships with students are deepened.
I support and will help further the work Kyrene is spearheading on closing the achievement, opportunity, and discipline gaps, which is just another indicator of a district that has embraced a culture of inclusion and not just for students with disabilities or racial minorities but as part of its core values and mission.
